Hey guys,
Thank you for your question. For the moment we have spent more time in Argentina than in Chile but as far as we can tell both country are a bit different.
Although Chile is today considered as a country richer than Argentina, it does not really appear at first sight : the places are not heated or very-badly heated, only little local shops exists to buy daily food (in Argentina we have met a dozen of Carrefour), the choice of fruits and vegetables is very poor. However, for the moment we have just crossed Chilian Patagonia maybe the North of the country will be different.
Argentina who was several years ago increasing its economy, met a devaluation of its money in 2002. For this reason, Argentina is cheaper than Chile to live. But the country offers more, surely because it has developped all needed infrastructures before 2002 (this is our personal deduction, to be confimed by a economist ).
Regarding the food, Chilian meals are not very spicies. However, we discovered an Argentinian sauce whose name is Chumi Churri and this one burns like hell
Donnot hesitate to ask us something that we may have forgotten. It is great to communicate with you so far away!
Hope to hear from you soon
Bye bye
in Spanish : Hasta Luego but you can say the italian word Ciao as well it is very used here. |

Hello,
I think you are in the north of Chile now. So, is it different from the Chilian Patagonia ?
Or else, what are the customs of this country ?
Do the inhabitans live in cities or in little villages like rural people ?
To finish, what is the weather like ?
Thank you, and good travel. |

Hey !
Thank you for your questions.
Unfortunately we are not able to answer yet because we are still in the South of Chili. We are now in Coyhaique, regional capital city of Aisen. However we can give you two or three clues about the weather and way of living out there.
First of all, Chilian Patagonia donnot count on a lot of big cities. Among the most important we can quote : Punta Arenas really in the South, Coyhaique where we are now a bit more in the North, and Puerto Montt which will be our next step tomorrow and which is a huge city, maybe the bigger in Patagonia. In Coyhaique, life is very quiet on Sundays because Chilian people are catholic people and mosty of them go to church. However, some shops open up at the end of afternoon. In the whole, we can say that life is very different. People like staying at home during their free times. As regards young people, we are used to see them walking in the streets, especially at nights, or sitting outsides with their friends. We wonder how do they can stand the cold !
Apart from these main cities, people live a lot in small villages like Chili Chico where we were stopped by snow for two days. Over there, life is very peacefull, a bit too much for us because we are used to the city life. In winter - that is to say at the moment - this way of life may be stronger than in summer. We will have to come back to see
For poor europeans like us, the weather can sometimes be weird and inconfortable, especially in little homes where they heat with old chimneys.
We were talking with an inhabitant overthere about the weather in Chili because at the moment the country is in a bad position : in the South, it has known a sudden snow storm which paralized a lot of roads (we were on theses roads), in the region of Santiago in the middle of the country there are floodings and a lot of damages, and in the very north of the country it is something like 22 degres.
We are looking to see the North to tell you more about .... We will be there in about 2 or 3 weeks ! And then direction BOLIVIA....
Hasta Luego
